PLAN of Massachusetts
• Provides education and assistance
to people with disabilities and their families in planning
for future needs of people with disabilities.
• Administers two Special Needs
Pooled Trusts that are designed to supplement the needs
of people with disabilities while protecting present and
future entitlement to public benefits such as Supplemental
Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid. These two Pooled Trusts
are:
• the MARC Special Needs
Pooled Trust – funded with assets
of people with a disability who receive government benefits
• the PLAN of Massachusetts
Third Party Special Needs Pooled Trust –
funded by assets that are provided by families or other
third parties to benefit people with disabilities.
PLAN of Massachusetts is a Massachusetts
non-profit corporation organized under the laws of Massachusetts
and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Services as a charitable
organization under Section 501c(3) of the Tax Code. Organized
in 1982 under the name of “MARC Trust, Inc.”,
PLAN of Massachusetts adopted its current name when it became
affiliated with the National PLAN Alliance (NPA) in 2004.
NPA includes 22 programs in 17 states
that serve more than 4000 families who have loved ones with
a disability. As an NPA affiliate, PLAN of Massachusetts adheres
to a set of national standards that includes instituting quality
assurance programs.
